Homocysteine
Information Page |
|
|
Homocysteine is a substance found in blood which has been found to be helpful in determining heart attack risk. Like
cholesterol, a high Homocysteine level can increase your risk of heart
attack or stroke. Unlike a high cholesterol level, a high Homocysteine level can usually be brought down without the use of prescription
medications. Reducing Homocysteine levels is accomplished by ensuring that
your diet has sufficient quantities of folic acid. This can be done by
going on a diet
including plenty of fruits , vegetables, and grains in your diet. If this
does not accomplish the desired goal than dietary folic acid supplements (
a multivitamin or a specific folic acid vitamin) may help further. |
