The
Dominican Republic, Barbados, Africa, Tahiti...all sound like great travel
destinations. These days people are more mobile than ever. There's no
corner of the globe that can't be reached and explored by even the most
casual traveler.
If you are traveling to the
remote reaches of Africa soon you may not need a reminder to call your
doctor before your trip. What many people do not realize is that
even a trip to the nearby Caribbean
can result in unwanted illness for those who aren't properly
prepared. Just recently, a travelers advisory was issued after several
visitors to the Dominican Republic came down with malaria. Travelers
Diarrhea, Hepatitis, Yellow fever, and Encephalitis are just a few of the
other unexpected souvenirs a
traveler may unwittingly bring home from common destinations both
near and far. Our
office can offer counseling on the best way to have a safe trip to most of
today's popular destinations. For a consultation, call our office
and schedule an appointment. It is best to schedule your consultation at
least 3-4 weeks prior to your trip. This will allow enough time for any
necessary vaccinations to become effective before the actual date of
travel.
To see if your travel
destination requires any special vaccines or medications you can also
search the CDC website at the link below. Centers
for Disease Control's (CDC) web travel medicine web site.

Note:
Typhoid vaccination, Cholera vaccination, and Japanese encephalitis
vaccination are not available through our office. If you are traveling
to an area that requires one of these vaccines we would recommend that
you contact the doctors at Travel
Medicine Consultants of Long Island for an appointment.
